“I have given you authority” were the words the Lord whispered, as I watched behind closed eyes, a Corporal’s patch being handed over to me. Corporals in the Marine Corps hold a significant amount of authority, specializing in commanding small fire-team contingents in operations and combat. Because of the responsibilities delegated to the squad and fire-team leaders, being promoted to a Corporal is seen as a significant accomplishment. As a noncommissioned officer, a Corporal in the Army is often referred to as the "backbone of the Army." Both spoke volumes to me in what the Lord was communicating through this whisper in prayer. We're in a battle in this world, but we’ve been given the authority we need to lead the charge and be victorious. We’re the “backbone” and have been equipped with the strength, wisdom, and discernment through the Holy Spirit that we need to successfully engage in the spiritual battles He takes us through. He will never leave us to fend for ourselves - “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” We have been promoted - given a new rank to put on our uniform...be diligent, alert and above all else walk confidently in the authority you’ve been given.
