The almond tree is a well-known symbol of resurrection because it’s the first tree to blossom, bursting into beautiful white and light pink blooms before spring has even touched the other trees. When the first thing we do, no matter the circumstances, is to burst forth in giving thanks with a grateful heart, we take the focus off ourselves and our circumstances, and put the focus back on the Lord. It’s not always an easy thing to do and takes diligence and intentionality, but the process invites His presence into our lives and opens the door for continued blessings. When we give thanks, we are reminded that God is the giver of all good gifts. A heart of gratitude leaves no room for grumbling, arguing or complaining and the results are a beautiful sight...a heart bursting with buds of gratitude. We become like the almond tree, a living example to those around us of all that Jesus has done and what “resurrection and the life” might look like. Maybe, just a little bit like the white and light pink blooms of an almond tree.
“I will give thanks to you, LORD, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.” - Psalm 9:1
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?’” - John 11:25-26
